Chris Meares has been joking with HSBC group chairman Stephen Green that the role of chief executive of private banking has become increasingly precarious, given the recent departures of wealth management heads at Citigroup, UBS and Merrill Lynch.
It is the kind of conversation one starts with a boss in order to receive a few words of reassurance and "no need to worry, Chris" was the gist of Green's response.
