Jefferies buys M&A boutique

Jefferies Group, the US-based investment bank, has taken the unusual step of expanding its mergers and acquisitions business while the market is depressed.

Jefferies has bought Quarterdeck Investment Partners, a US-based investment banking firm specialising in aerospace, defence and federal IT M&A. The defence sector has attracted particular media attention since the September 11, 2001 attacks on the US and the impending threat of war with Iraq.
