Johnston Group rebuffs rebels

Johnston Group, the FTSE fledgling diversified building and materials firm, has defeated a proposals calling on the firm to pay a special cash dividend and to dispose of its construction materials division.

The proposals from activist shareholder TT Electronics, which owns a 23% stake, were rejected by nearly 70% of the shares voted at the Extraordinary General Meeting in London on Wednesday. The Johnston family controls just over of 50% of the shares.
