Junk bonds push the needle for buyout firms

Issuance is at a record high and about half of all debt financings for buyouts come from high yield

The junk bond market was once used by private equity to add a little bit more leverage to transactions. But, nowadays, about half of all debt financings for buyouts come from high yield. Issuance is at a record high.

According to figures from data provider Dealogic, there were $35.6 billion worth of high-yield bonds issued for 74 private equity-backed deals in Europe between January 1 and September 30.
