Largest pension funds saw assets drop by $740bn in 2001

Assets under management at the world's largest 300 pension funds fell by just under 12% in 2001, from $5.43 trillion (€5.58 trillion) to $6.17 trillion, according to the annual survey by Pensions & Investments and Watson Wyatt, the investment consultancy.

The decline compares with a 8.5% rise in the previous year.
