Legal & General, the UK’s largest fund manager, has dropped the shares of some of the world’s biggest companies from its environmental funds, amid a crackdown on corporate “laggards” on climate change.

The £983bn fund manager — a giant of index investing which is often among the largest shareholders on many firms’ registers — has simultaneously pledged to vote against the chairs of these companies until they improve.
