$80bn M&A spending spree earns millions for bankers

Investment banks on Wall Street enjoyed their most prolific day of deal making in nearly four years as more than $80bn (€68.27bn) worth of merger and acquisition activity was announced.

Bank of America's $47bn acquisition of Fleet Boston Financial led the biggest one-day spending spree since the peak of the M&A boom in January 2000, according to Dealogic, the investment banking data specialists.
