Marconi repays $1.2bn debt four years early

Marconi, the UK telecoms equipment group whose borrowings once topped $8bn, is now entirely debt free after repaying $1.2bn worth of bonds four years early and saving itself $400m (€328m) in interest charges.

Marconi, assumed the debt in May last year at the end of a financial restructuring designed to rejuvenate the group.
