Merrill Lynch completed an impressive results season for Wall Street's bulge bracket investment banks yesterday, reports the Financial Times.

Fourth-quarter net earnings were $764m, up 113% from the same period last year, and 34% on the third quarter. Earnings per diluted share were $1.80, 29% higher than analysts' consensus estimates.
