Merrill profits surge on fixed-income revenues

Merrill Lynch profits rose 61% in the second quarter thanks largely to strong revenues from fixed income, while investment banking results were mixed.

After a difficult two years Merrill recorded just over $1bn (€883m) in profits for the quarter in results the bank described as the second-best in its history.
