Merrill's second quarter earnings up

Merrill Lynch has reported its second highest quarterly net earnings ever.

The largest full service brokerage in the US reported net earnings of $902m (€963m), a 34% increase from the second quarter of 1999. The increase came from a rise in investment banking fees and profits from investment management, despite a more turbulent market environment.
