Monzo adds former American Express chair ahead of US push

The digital banking start-up has had a busy few weeks, confirming a £113m fundraising

Monzo has appointed Phillip Riese, a serial fintech board member and former senior executive at credit card company American Express, as a non-executive director.

The news comes just a few weeks after the digital bank’s official launch in the US, where it now has a waiting list for would-be customers. More recently, Monzo confirmed the completion of a £113m fundraising from Y Combinator Continuity, the US investment fund, with some of the proceeds earmarked to support the expansion.
