The recovery of the custodian banks continues as Citigroup and Northern Trust each disclosed significant increases in their assets under custody in first-quarter reports last month.

Northern Trust's high-double-digit increase in assets under custody was partially fuelled by its purchase of Bank of Ireland Securities Services, which added almost $100m to its client assets.
