Nasdaq names Adena Friedman as next CEO

Robert Greifeld to become chairman of the board after nearly 14 years leading the exchange operator

Nasdaq has named Adena Friedman its next chief executive officer, while Robert Greifeld will become chairman of the board of directors after nearly 14 years leading the exchange operator.

Friedman will start her new role on January 1, 2017, the company said in a statement. Nasdaq's current chairman Borje Ekholm will step down at the end of this year and remain on the board.
