The target that a quarter of FTSE 100 directors should be women was met in July – great. It was reached in just four years – even better. Deciding the next step in boosting the female presence in senior jobs – not so easy. And in finance – trickier yet.

The financial sector poses particular problems, according to the head of the group that set the 25% target for FTSE 100 boards.
