New Jersey collects $1.4m from Merrill Lynch

New Jersey has reached a $1.4m (€1.4m) settlement with Merrill Lynch over its research activities but the bank, and other Wall Street firms, could face further fines as the state completes its investigations.

New Jersey's civil penalty is a share of the $100m settlement that Merrill reached with Eliot Spitzer, the attorney general for the state of New York, under a multi-state agreement.
