News in brief: Managers swoop on Japanese market

Investments in the Japanese market by hedge funds totalled $84bn (€63bn) at the end of June, a 17% increase on the end of last year, according to stockbroker Daiwa Securities America. Global funds' investments in the country totalled $48bn, while investments by hedge funds specialising in Japanese securities came to $28bn, a 40% increase.
