Britain's oldest brewer scoops Coutts prize

A meat company with "legendary sausages" also picks up an award

Coutts & Co, the UK private banking arm of Royal Bank of Scotland Group, has named a 300-year-old brewer and a meat company with “legendary sausages” as the UK’s two best family-run businesses.

Britain's oldest brewer, Kent-based Shepherd Nearne, scooped the award for Best Family Business in the £25m (€30m)-plus turnover category. Established in 1698, the brewer is now being run by the fifth generation of the family. The company brews and sells its own beers under a variety of different brands sold across the South East.
