Pay attracts people to private businesses

Top-level managers join companies owned by private equity firms only for a big pay-packet, according to a leading UK industrialist.

Sir Clive Thompson, former chief executive of Rentokil Initial, the business services company, and recently deposed as chairman, said running a company owned by a private equity firm offered managers the opportunity to increase their own wealth, but little else. "It's purely about the money," he said.
