Pension funds sue RBS over 2008 rights issue

Two UK government-backed pension funds are among a group of institutional investors suing Royal Bank of Scotland, majority owned by the UK taxpayer

A group of 21 UK institutional shareholders – including two UK government-backed pension funds representing coalminers – have launched a law suit against Royal Bank of Scotland relating to its £12bn rights issue in the spring of 2008.

The claim comes as a second, larger group of institutional shareholders readies to file a similar claim, according to a source familiar with the matter who added this would happen within the coming week.
