Philips joins rush to US

Netherlands electronics group Philips has become the third European company to launch a major US acquisition this year with the $690m (€571m) agreed cash takeover of Lifeline Systems, a US home healthcare business.

Philips follows German chemicals giant BASF and Italian lottery operator Lottomatica which launched US acquisitions earlier this month.
