Luxury business buoys PPR

French company posts 6.9% rise in profit, says it will continue Alexander McQueen brand

French conglomerate PPR SA posted a 6.9% increase in net profit for 2009, as the strong performance of its luxury-goods division contrasted with the struggles of its retail arm.

PPR also said Thursday that its Alexander McQueen fashion house will continue, despite the designer's death last week. A London coroner's inquest confirmed Wednesday that Mr. McQueen committed suicide.
