Private equity firms end 2019 on a record high

A decade that began in the aftermath of the great financial crisis has seen the private equity industry recover and this year hit pre-crisis records

Private equity is ending the decade in Europe with a bang.

Buyout firms have spent more in Europe in 2019 than any other year in the last decade, with the total invested hitting pre-financial crisis levels, according to data provider Preqin. In all, private equity groups have spent $190bn on deals in Europe so far this year, up 29% from the $148bn recorded in 2018.
