Profits rise at Fortis amid falling markets

Profits at the investment management arm of Fortis, the Dutch-Belgian financial services giant, rose steeply in the first half of this year, despite a fall in assets.

Fund management profits rose 27% due to an increase in average commission charges, combined with tighter cost-controls following a staff-restructuring programme which began last year.
