Record-breaking run for asset-backed securities

Regulatory issues remain focus for securitisation

The asset-backed securities (ABS) sector is still on a roll. After an extraordinarily busy second quarter – "an all-time record", according to Iain Barbour, head of structured finance research at Commerzbank Securities – the market should set new issuance highs this year.

Total risk transfer stood at €112.5bn ($126.5bn) at June 25 – compared with around €55bn for the first half of 2002 and 2001, according to Commerzbank.
