Risk policies can breed complacency

Big companies have developed increasingly sophisticated risk- management policies in recent years, but there is a danger that these advances can undermine a company's efforts to reduce its exposure to risk.

William Malloy, president and chief executive for Europe and the Middle East of Marsh, part of the US Marsh McClennan insurance group, says: "Companies today have to manage risk. It's a question of how, not if."
