S&P cuts Credit Suisse Group rating

Bank to strengthen capital base

Standard & Poor's, the ratings agency, has cut the long-term counterparty ratings of Credit Suisse Group and its financial strength and counterparty ratings on Winterthur, its insurance unit.

S&P, which dropped Credit Suisse Group's rating to A from A-plus, blamed the Swiss financial services provider's poor consolidated operating performance, which has contributed to pressure on the group's capitalisation.
