S&P eases fears with one-notch rating cut for Sainsbury

Bond investors reacted with relief after Standard & Poor's, the rating agency, downgraded the credit rating of J Sainsbury by one notch, quashing fears the UK retailer would suffer a multi-notch cut because of its pension fund deficit.

S&P lowered its rating on J Sainsbury from A to A-, concluding a review that started in mid-January after the retailer revealed plans to bid for UK rival Safeway.
