S&P eases insurers' doubts on hybrid capital

European insurers should take advantage of low interest rates and improving capital market sentiment to bolster their financial strength by issuing long-dated debt, including hybrid equity, according to a new report from Standard & Poor's, the rating agency.

S&P warned that European insurers are failing to take the opportunity to strengthen their weak balance sheets at a time when debt costs are low because they are afraid of harming their credit rating.
