Sale of Abraaj art collection raises £4.7m

The emerging markets-focused private equity firm filed for liquidation in June

Dubai-based private equity firm Abraaj Group has sold off one of its more unusual investments — its art collection.

The firm, which filed for liquidation in June after defaulting on more than $1bn of debt, has raised nearly £5m from the sale of approximately 200 pieces of Middle Eastern, South Asian and Islamic art, according to a statement released by auction house Bonhams.
