SEC chief hits out at Morgan Stanley's Purcell

William Donaldson, chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has reprimanded Philip Purcell, chairman and chief executive of Morgan Stanley for belittling allegations made against the firm in the global settlement earlier this week.

Donaldson, who presented the settlement between US regulators and 10 securities firms on Monday, cautioned Purcell about playing down the seriousness of allegations against Morgan Stanley.
