Sotheby's third quarter sales

Sotheby's third quarter results were released last week, with the US-owned and headquartered auctioneer reporting an 18% spike in revenues. Revenues for the quarter reached $68.5m, with a marked improvement in private sales commissions. However, the company continues to lose money, recording a pre-tax loss of $46.4m for the quarter, with a net loss of $32.6m for the three months ended September 30, 2012.
