Bankia’s profits drop 58% to €230m

The Spanish bank said it had set aside over €500m to give it 'greater flexibility' in the year ahead as the pandemic continues to cause uncertainty

Bankia’s profits have taken a hit as the Spanish bank reports a net profit of €230m, down by 58% compared to the year before, as it put aside over €500m to shield against the effects of the pandemic.

The €505m will “further strengthen” the bank’s balance sheet and give it greater flexibility to meet the future financing needs of households and businesses, the bank said in a 28 January statement.
