Standard Life stays mutual but is 'not out of the woods'

Standard Life's management has been warned against relaxing, despite winning a policyholder vote to keep the company mutual today.

For the attempt at demutualisation to have been successful, 75% of voting policyholders would have had to vote in favour of a special resolution directing the board of directors' action. Only 45.7% of votes were cast in favour.
