Sydney merger plan wins shareholder approval

Shareholders in the Sydney Futures Exchange have approved the proposed takeover by the Australian Stock Exchange, paving the way for a merger that will create the world's ninth largest exchange group.

The deal, which will create a combined exchange group with cash and derivatives trading, integrated clearing and settlement and a central debt securities depository, received overwhelming support from SFE shareholders.
