Short-sellers made billions last year as electric vehicle stocks were battered by an uncertain macroeconomic environment, negative investor sentiment, and lower-than-expected sales growth.

Tesla shorts collected $15.7bn in profits last year, according to ORTEX data, as shares in the world’s largest electric vehicle manufacturer lost more than 70% of their value.
