The benefits of autism in the office

There can be challenges to having autistic employees, but employers need to learn there can be upsides too

World Autism Awareness Week earlier this month aimed to shine much needed light on a disability which is often unacknowledged in the workplace and can be greatly misunderstood.

It’s estimated that there are around 700,000 such people in the UK — that’s more than 1 in 100. So, the odds are there is at least one person in your office on the autism spectrum but you don’t know it. Indeed, those at the less severe end of the autistic spectrum may not even be aware themselves that they have the condition.
