Last month I heard Wol Kolade, a very successful private equity manager, talk at a conference in London.

He had been fitted with a beige (i.e. “skin toned”) headset microphone for his panel on diversity. But as one of the only high-profile black men in the industry, the mic was not the same colour as his skin — an irony he pointed out.
