News Analysis: the new futures form part of the broader trend towards increased co-operation between Hong Kong and the mainland China equities markets

On Monday Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing began trading new stock index futures in a development that has been heavily publicised by the company and which has attracted a good deal of attention from Hong Kong and mainland Chinese media.

At a packed press conference held at the company's Hong Kong headquarters last week, HKEx chief executive Charlies Li unveiled the CES 120 Index Futures which he described as a "milestone" and world "first".
