So BSkyB has asked John Thornton, the former president of Goldman Sachs, to review its remuneration policies.

Thornton knows all about pay, having built up a fortune of well over $100m (€87m) with multi-million dollar bonuses in his time at Goldman. One shareholder – perhaps meanly – was overheard to say: "It's like putting an alcoholic in charge of pub licensing laws."
