John Glen, the Conservative member of parliament for Salisbury, has been appointed as Economic Secretary to the Treasury, as part of a broader cabinet reshuffle.

Glen, a pro-European former strategy consultant for Accenture, will take responsibility for the UK's financial services sector, becoming the 11th politician to hold the post — dubbed City minister — in the past 10 years.
