UBS braced for job cuts

UBS today remained tight-lipped over planned job losses after a report that the Swiss bank could shed up to 8,000 staff to cut costs in the wake of billions of Swiss francs in writedowns that plunged it to a net loss last year.

A spokesman for UBS said today that "no decision has yet been made on the cuts but systematic cost management remains a crucial priority” to the bank.
