UK banks slow to prepare for Basel II implementation

Fewer banks in the UK have started preparing for implementation of the New Basel Accord than their counterparts in continental Europe, according to research by KPMG. Most UK banks have already decided what approach they will take unlike their European peers.

Basel II, which includes additional capital requirements to cover credit and operational risk, is still at the comment stage but is expected to go into effect in 2005.
