The UK has filed a lawsuit at the European Union's top court over a controversial EU plan to cap bankers' bonuses, which is due to enter into force next year.

The legal challenge, filed with the Luxembourg-based European Court of Justice, aims to "ensure the legislation respects the EU Treaty," a UK Treasury spokesman said Wednesday.
