When UniCredit chief executive Andrea Orcel looked to bolster the Italian lender’s dealmaking unit, he turned to a former lieutenant from his days at UBS to lead the charge. 

Sam Kendall had led UBS’s equity capital markets business globally, and also headed the Swiss bank’s US unit during a two-decade career there.
