US Treasury's Wolin: Office of Financial Research coming together

The new body is permitted by law to demand data from financial companies including banks, hedge funds, private-equity firms and brokerages

A new office that will closely track financial data will begin defining reporting standards in the coming months, US Treasury Deputy Secretary Neal Wolin planned to say at a speech on Wednesday in London.

The new Office of Financial Research stems from financial-overhaul legislation under implementation in the US The Treasury is exploring "ways in which it could act as a central warehouse of data for the regulatory community," Wolin said, according to text of his remarks released ahead of the speech.
