Venture-backed IPOs fall 60%

Venture capital-backed US initial public offerings fell by nearly 60% last year, according to data published by Thomson Venture Economics and trade group, the National Venture Capital Association.

Bloomberg reports that despite strong global stock markets, the US benchmark S&P500 index rose by only 3% in 2005 and flotations fell as trade buyers and secondary transactions offered more attractive exit options for venture capitalists.
