The Gulf Cooperation Council should heed lessons learnt in the eurozone if it decides to go ahead with creating a single-currency union, according to Yves Mersch of the European Central Bank.

Mersch, a member of the ECB's executive board, told delegates at an opening session at Sibos that single-currency union must be properly thought out and designed.
