Zurich Financial's asset management business in the red

Zurich Financial Services (ZFS) has been hit with a $14m (€23m) loss in its asset management business, while the future of its US subsidiary Zurich Scudder Investments hangs in the balance.

The troubled Swiss insurer's loss contrasts sharply with 2000's half-year profit figure of $82m. Assets under management fell 5% from $437bn to $416bn over the same period.
